Match Preview: Brisbane Roar Ninja A-League Women vs Queensland State Team

Brisbane Roar’s preparations for the 2024/25 Ninja A-League Women’s Season kick off with a clash against the Queensland State Team at Meakin Park on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday afternoon’s match will be the first pre-season match the club’s A-League Women’s side plays that will feature several new faces against a side comprised of the best players from the NPL Queensland.

The Queensland State Team are coached by Eastern Suburbs FC coach, Lachlan Leong, while their squad consists of several former Roar players including Talitha Kramer, Stephanie Latham, Georgina Worth and Ayesha Norrie.

Pre-season commenced last week, marking the start of Head Coach, Alex Smith’s first full season in charge as he shapes his squad for an exciting 24/25 season.

Smith has brought in eight new faces so far with Leia Varley, Emily Pringle, Isabela Hoyos, and Momo Hayashi bolstering the defensive stocks, Zara Kruger and Laini Freier adding strength to the midfield and the inclusion of attacking weapons Danelle Tan, Evdokia Popadinova and Tanaye Morris.

Sharn Freier, Keeley Richards, Alicia Woods, Holly McQueen, Deborah-Anne De La Harpe and Emma Gibbon have all re-signed for the 2024/25 season while Chelsea Blissett, Tamar Levin, Ruby Cuthbert, Tameka Yallop, Kijah Stephenson, Mariel Hecher and Grace Kuilamu all remain under contract for the upcoming campaign.

An NPL QLD product herself, Tamar Levin is excited to come up against some of her former teammates this Saturday in Roar’s first pre-season hitout.

“I think it’s a good opportunity to gel with each other,” Levin said.

“It’ll be our first game altogether. I’ve played with most of those girls in this Queensland team and they’re obviously quality players, so it won’t be an easy one but we’re up for a challenge and hopefully get the result.”

Roar are set to kick off their campaign with an away fixture against Canberra United at McKellar Park on Saturday, 2 November.

Saturday’s match at Meakin Park kicks off at 2:30pm and will be broadcast live on the Football Queensland YouTube channel and FQTV.
