Match Wrap: Brisbane Roar 2-1 Queensland State Team

Brisbane Roar’s preparations for the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League season continued with a 2-1 win over the Queensland State Team at Underwood Park on Friday night.

Goals from Ben Halloran and Quinn MacNicol found the back for Ruben Zadkovich’s side who fought back after falling behind to a Luke Francis goal.

Francis opened the scoring in the first minute of the second half when he got in behind the Roar defence on the end of a Rhys Gray through ball before firing a first-time finish past Macklin Freke from a tight angle.

Halloran levelled the scores with a deflected first time strike in the 69th minute after being found by a Keegan Jelacic cutback inside the area for what his first goal since returning to Brisbane.

Substitue, MacNicol popped up with the winner in the 89th minute when he pounced onto a loose ball after a last ditch Hassan Ramazani denied Adam Zimarino on the top of the box and slid a decisive finish into the bottom corner to seal the victory.

Roar kick off the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season on the road against the competition’s newest club, Auckland FC at Go Media Stadium on Saturday, October 19.
