Mid-Season Update – A Message from Zac Anderson, COO

To our dedicated Brisbane Roar FC members and fans,

It’s been a busy and exciting first-half of the 2023/24 A-League season. I’m incredibly proud of both our men’s and women’s teams, as well as our entire team across the Brisbane Roar FC.

A-LEAGUE MEN

Final preparations are coming together for tonight’s A-Leagues men’s clash with Central Coast Mariners. We look to make it four matches unbeaten at Suncorp Stadium and a win could place us temporarily at the top of the A-League Men’s ladder.

With respect to the team structure for tonight and for the remainder of the season, I’d like to reinforce our 100{0e9d9e5f8ab8f5ee98de7b96e5025abc03cdeec159ea0768a5c635a5f5e5f174} support for Ross Aloisi and his coaching staff. From an operations perspective we are rallying around the needs of Ross and his staff moving into the new year and continuing to support the building blocks for both now and beyond the 23/24 season.

The player trading window opens on January 10, 2024. Whilst we have re-signed and extended a number of current player contracts, we will use this as an opportunity to bolster the squad with attacking players and to increase depth and diversity in our defence line. More news to come in the new year.

Early 2024 will be an important period of matches against top-of-the-table teams. We look forward to announcing player changes and the complete squad for the second half of the season by the start of February 2024.

A-LEAGUE WOMEN

I’d like to acknowledge the changes to this squad in the first-half of the season and also reiterate the tremendous amount of focus and support directed to the women’s side. This team is undergoing a sizable transformation with respect to development and growth. Alex Smith and his coaching staff remain focused on evolving our women’s squad and we remain committed and supportive of our coaching staff and squad.

We’ve reinforced the squad by bringing in Bonnie Davies (RW/ Striker), with two more signings (A midfielder & defender) set to be announced imminently. These women will be fantastic additions to the team and will continue to provide depth, as well as drive competition for places in the squad. Rebuilding our women’s program and resources is certainly a big part of this journey and an area Kaz and I have been developing with the immense support from Football Queensland and the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Our women will continue to train at QSAC for the remainder of the season. I’m also pleased to confirm that we have received the keys to our new high performance facility at Brendale.

This building will be officially unveiled on 20th January, 2024. Our intention is to build out all soft assets, including gym space, change rooms, office space etc, whilst the grounds are being prepared with the incredible support of key partners such as Pristine Homes/ Jason Gazdagh.

NPL/ U23 ACADEMY SQUAD

Under the leadership of Ben Cahn, our re-energised NPL and NPL U23 program has commenced, and training has seen our youth talent complete their first pre-season training block. Playing two internal matches against our ALM’s team and Brisbane Olympic FC, it’s exciting to see more Queensland talent emerging and being prepared for the NPL season with more exposure to professional football. ALM Head Coach Ross Aloisi, has already identified a number of youth players which he has chosen to bring up into his environment (ALM training), to provide players the experience and intensity of professional football. The program will recommence in the new year, after a short Christmas break.

IN SUMMARY

Our club is on a remarkable journey with our fans to rebuild and grow. We focus on the process, as we know positive results will follow from hard work, togetherness and strategic planning. Both our men’s and women’s sides have been playing incredibly exciting football and I remain confident that we have the right people and the right team to take Brisbane Roar forward on this journey.

Let’s continue to get behind our men and women’s teams as the men take on the Central Coast Mariners tonight at Suncorp Stadium, and the women take on Sydney FC in Sydney tomorrow night. Tickets available here.

Finally, Thank you for your continued and unwavering support of Brisbane Roar FC in 2023. It’s going to be a huge first few months of football in 2024, as we work together to seek more on & off field success.

I wish each and every fan a wonderful festive season with your friends and family and an exciting 2024.
