Mundy to make most of moment

With four Brisbane Roar players away on Qantas Olyroos duty, defender Matt Mundy looks set to make his season debut this weekend against Adelaide United and is keen to grab the opportunity with both hands.

Mundy has made 12 appearances for the Roar and is likely to slot into the Brisbane back four against an Adelaide side who are yet to taste defeat so far this season, winning their past four outings.

Despite the challenge, Mundy said he was eager to make his mark.

ā€œI-m definitely a bit excited about my first game of the season so hopefully I do well,ā€ he said.

ā€œThe boys are a bit disappointed after last week, but as the gaffer said we made a couple of silly errors and apart from that they didn-t have any other chances.

ā€œIf we stamp out the errors, hopefully we should do well.ā€

The last time Brisbane beat Adelaide came in round 14 last season, when Sergio van Dijk scored twice to secure the three points for the Roar.

However, this time around, van Dijk will take the field in Adelaide colours after making the move south in the offseason.

Mundy said their friendships will be put on hold once the teams take the field and Brisbane would be looking keep another clean sheet at Suncorp Stadium.

ā€œHe-ll just be another player really,ā€ the 23-year-old defender said.

ā€œI will concentrate on my job and I-m sure he-ll concentrate on his and hopefully we get the three points.ā€

Another home win would mean four in a row for Ange Postecoglou-s men, and Mundy said after a busy week at training, the team was up to the challenge.

ā€œIt-s very important to get the wins at home,ā€ he said.

ā€œAdelaide are probably feeling very confident but we-re hoping we can knock them off with another win at home.ā€

Brisbane Roar’s match against Adelaide United kicks off at 7.30pm, Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.
