Young Roar defender Kai Trewin has been named to represent Australia at the SBS Under 18 International Cup in Japan starting this weekend.
As the National Premier Leagues Queensland 2018 competition enters its final two weeks, Young Roar defender Kai Trewin has been named to represent Australia at the SBS Under 18 International Cup in Japan starting this weekend.
Trewin’s selection marks a second consecutive appearance in the green and gold for the young defender, which he says is a serious step forward in his career.
“Being selected for the Australian team is a big deal and it’s a big step forward for me personally,” Trewin said.
“To be invited into the National team camp is a great opportunity to grow and come back to BRFC with new experiences.”
The SBS International Cup will see Australia’s U18 side take on Japan and Paraguay as well as a Japanese U18 provincial team to complete the tournament.
INTERNATIONAL CALL-UP FOR YOUNG ROAR DUO
Having joined the BRFC Academy side twelve months ago, Trewin’s rise through the Young Roar ranks, to featuring with the Hyundai A-League side during pre-season preparation, has been a rise that he is incredibly proud of.
“Everything has been going well for me at the moment, this year is a big step in my football career,” Trewin continued.
“It’s important to be a leader out on the field, to show that confidence as a centre back and direct the team from the back of the pitch.
“I have always been confident in my own ability, having the mentality that I can believe in myself and work hard to be the best keeps me motivated.”
Trewin is one of a number of Young Roar stars who has joined Brisbane’s Hyundai A-League squad for pre-season training.
“Training with the first team has been a great opportunity and I thank the coaching staff for providing this opportunity,” Trewin added.
“I’m want to make the most of it and I’m sure my Young Roar teammates want to do the same. It’s only up from here.”
