Young Roar hit the halfway mark of the 2024 NPL Queensland season when they face Sunshine Coast Wanderers in Round 11 action at Ballinger Park on Sunday afternoon.
Roar, who are unbeaten in their last four league matches start the weekend in seventh position on the NPL Queensland ladder with 13 points to their name.
Andre Bennett’s side played out a 1-1 draw against Gold Coast United in their last outing with a second half Ivan Ozzi header cancelling out Chris Lucas’ opener from the penalty spot.
Ozzi’s goal leaves him level with Rylan Brownlie on four goals as Young Roar’s leading scorers in the NPL this season.
The Wanderers, who are coached by former Brisbane Roar Head Coach, Nick Green are three points adrift of Roar in tenth position on the NPL ladder.
Green’s side have won three of their last four in the league including a 2-0 triumph on the road over Olympic last weekend.
Roar and the Wanderers have already met once this season with Sunshine Coast running out 3-1 winners in Kappa Pro Series Group B action at Ballinger Park.
A Ty Cobb strike wasn’t enough for Roar against a Wanderers side who found the back of the net through Max Brown, Jeremy Stewart and Jhairah Taylor.
In the U23 match Roar look to continue their five-match unbeaten run when they take on the Wanderers.
After being out of action for almost a month Roar returned with bang, running out 3-1 winners over Gold Coast United last weekend thanks to goals from Tuquiri Beckett, Kade McDougall and Zac Fowler.
Roar’s U23s sit 2nd on the league table, three points behind league leaders Lions with three games in hand on their rivals from Luxury Paints Stadium.
Sunday’s NPL Queensland Round 11 action at Ballinger Park gets underway at 3pm (NPL First Team) & 5:15pm (NPL U23) with the first team match being live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
