Young Roar suffered a 5-0 defeat against Lions in NPL Queensland Round 15 action at Nudgee Recreation Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
Alex Fiechtner scored a brace while Joe Duckworth, Luke Broderick and James Enticknap were all on target in a commanding display from Lions, who sit second in the league.
Fiechtner opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he got in behind the Roar defence and slid a finish into the bottom corner via the inside of the post.
Duckworth doubled the visitors lead in the 31st minute when fired a first-time effort into the bottom corner from the top of the box.
Broderick netted Lions third of the afternoon in 39th minute when he cut in from the left and slammed his effort past Lachlan Duke into the back of the net.
Enticknap extended Lions lead in the 64th minute when he found the top corner with long range effort on the end of a short corner from the visitors.
Fiechtner rounded out the scoring in the 85th minute when he lasered a strike into the bottom corner from the top of the box after making a driving run through the heart of the Roar defence.
Roar’s U23 side played out a pulsating 3-3 draw against Lions in the afternoon’s earlier kick off with Eremugo Debele bagging brace while Nathan Geyer was also on target.
Sunday’s defeat leaves Roar in tenth position on the NPL Queensland ladder with seven rounds remaining in the 2024 regular season.
Focus for Young Roar now shifts to next Saturday’s trip to Carmichael Park to face Wynnum Wolves in Round 16 action.
