NPL R15 Preview: Young Roar vs Lions FC

Young Roar are up against Lions FC in NPL Queensland Round 15 action at Nudgee Recreation Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

Andre Bennett’s side come into the weekend in tenth position on the league table with 13 points to their name after suffering a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Redlands United in their last outing.

Despite goals from Ivan Ozzi and James Durrington it was Redlands who came away with the points thanks a Peter Klaassen brace along with strikes from Max Ellenger and James Piercy.

Ozzi, who’s goal in Sunday’s match leaves him as the sides top scorer in the NPL this season with six to his name will go up against his former club after joining Roar following a breakout campaign with Lions in 2023.

Lions, who are coached by Darren Sime are home to former Roar duo Josh Brindell-South and Matt Ridenton as well as a host of ex-Young Roar players.

Lions are second on the NPL Queensland ladder and come into Sunday’s match off the back of a last ditch 3-2 win over Olympic in their last outing.

The two sides have already met once this season with Roar prevailing 2-1 in Round 4 at Luxury Paints Stadium thanks to goals from Rylan Brownlie and Ty Cobb.

Sunday’s U23 match pits first against third with Young Roar looking to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The two NPL U23 top scorers will also face off with Roar’s Zac Fowler on 17 goals going up against Lions Niall Thom, who has 14 to his name.

Sunday’s games at Nudgee Recreation Reserve kick off at 2:45pm (NPL Men) & 12:45pm (NPL U23) with the NPL Men’s match being live stream on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
