NPL R16 Preview: Wynnum Wolves vs Young Roar

Young Roar head to Carmichael Park to take on Wynnum Wolves in NPL Queensland Round 16 action on Saturday evening.

Andre Bennett’s side start the weekend in tenth position on the league table and look to bounce back after suffering defeat at the hands of Lions last weekend.

Wynuum, who are playing in the NPL for the first time this season following a promotion wining campaign in 2023 are currently in fifth position on the league table.

Graham Fyfe’s side, who have several Young Roar players on their books including George Earwicker, Jakob Mudnic, Aaron Dempsey, Deegan Brook and Nigel Poinapen defeated Rochedale 2-1 in their last outing.

Roar and Wynnum have already met once this season with a 93rd minute James Nikolovski strike cancelling out Kyren Walters opener in a 1-1 draw at Meakin Park in Round 5.

In the afternoon’s earlier kick off the two clubs will face off in U23 action with Roar sitting level at the top of the table with Moreton City although they have a game in hand on their rivals from Wolter Park.

Roar will be without Quinn MacNicol, Rhys Williams and Charlie Parkin who are all in action with the Joeys at the ASEAN U16 Boys’ Championship in Indonesia.

Australia will face Malaysia, Thailand and Timor-Leste in the Group Stage of the tournament which kicks off on Sunday, 23 June.

Saturday’s games at Carmichael Park kick off at 6:15pm (NPL Men) & 4pm (NPL U23) with the NPL Men’s match being live stream on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
