Young Roar were edged out 1-0 by Gold Coast Knights in NPL Queensland Round 17 action at Perry Park on Saturday afternoon.
Roar pushed the league leaders all the way before a late goal from former Roar midfielder, Bradden Inman secured all three points for Knights in an afternoon where both sides finished with ten men following send offs for Sam Klein and Ivan Ozzi.
Knights were reduced to ten men in the 26th minute when former Roar midfielder, Klein received his second caution of the contest for a foul on Rylan Brownlie.
Chances were at a premium in Saturday’s match with neither sides goalkeepers having a great deal of work to do in a tightly fought affair.
Inman came close with a curling effort from the edge of the area in the 65th minute before Lachlan Duke managed to punch clear to deny Shelford Dais from the resulting corner.
The contest became ten against ten in the 74th minute when Ozzi received his second booking of the afternoon for a foul on Austin Ludwik.
Inman found the breakthrough in the 86th minute when Tyson Martin played him in behind the Roar defence and he finished at the second attempt after initially being denied one-on-one by Duke.
Saturday’s defeat leaves Roar in tenth position on the NPL Queensland ladder with three games remaining in the regular season while Knights move to within three points of sealing a second straight NPL Premiership.
Roar’s U23 moved one point ahead of Moreton City at the top of the table after playing out 2-2 draw with Knights in the afternoon’s earlier kick off, finding the back of the net through Rhys Williams and Tuquiri Beckett.
Next up for Roar is a trip to Goodwin Park to face Olympic in NPL Round 20 action on Sunday August 4.
