NPL R19 Preview: Young Roar v Rochedale Rovers

Young Roar are up against Rochedale Rovers in NPL Queensland Round 19 action at Nudgee Recreation Reserve on Saturday evening.

Saturday’s match pits tenth placed Roar against the 12th placed Rovers with Andre Bennett’s side starting the weekend with an eight-point buffer over their rivals from Underwood Park.

Roar come into Saturday’s match after suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Peninsula Power last weekend while Rochedale were beaten 1-0 by Olympic.

The two sides have already met once this season with Roar recording a commanding 5-1 victory at Underwood Park in April thanks to an Ivan Ozzi hat-trick along with goals from Riley Gill and Zac Fowler.

Rochedale are coached by Scott MacNicol, father of Roar youngster Quinn and are home to ex-Roar duo Jordan Holmes and Patrick Theodore along with several former academy platers including Cooper McCormack, Harry Talbot, Josh Moreland, Oliver Dearn and Liam McArthur.

The two club’s U23 sides will go head-to-head for the second time in as many weeks after Roar recorded a remarkable 8-6 victory in a crazy game at Underwood Park last Wednesday.

Since then Roar recorded a 2-1 victory over Peninsula Power thanks to goals from Caleb Butler and Zac Fowler as they go neck and with Moreton City Excelsior in the race for the Premiership.

Roar will be without defender Lucas Herrington who is on national team duty with the Young Socceroos at the ASEAN U-19 Boy’s Championship in Indonesia.

Saturday’s action at Nudgee Recreation Reserve takes place at 5pm (NPL Men) and 2:45pm (NPL U23) with the NPL Men’s match being live streamed on the Football Queensland YouTube channel and FQTV.
