Young Roar are set to test their mettle against defending NPL Queensland Champions, Lions FC in Round 2 action at Luxury Paints Stadium on Friday night.
A nine man Roar side endured a challenging start to their 2025 NPL Queensland campaign, going down 4-0 to Peninsula Power in Round One action at AJ Kelly Park last weekend.
Roar were reduced to ten men after just 15 seconds when Luke Nieuwenhof was given his marching orders for a challenge on Kane Gibbs while Captain, Noah Maeironi was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card midway through the first half.
Nieuwenhof and Maieroni were two of eight players to play their first NPL match for Roar alongside Christian Naveen, David Bolongi, Jack Child, Pearson Kasawaya, Sam Flannery and Sebastian Bors on Saturday.
Lions were also beaten on opening day, suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Gold Coast Knights on Friday night.
The side from Luxury Paints Stadium, who are coached by Darren Sime are home to a number of former Young Roar players including Cardiff Pond, Finn Beakhurst, Hassan Ramazani, Jackson Hart-Phillips, Trent Millard and Luke Broderick as well as Mitch Hore – the older brother of Roar’s Henry.
Friday’s match at Luxury Paints Stadium kicks off at 7:30pm AEST and will be live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
