NPL R21 Preview: Gold Coast United vs Young Roar

Young Roar make the trip down the M1 to face Gold Coast United at Coplick Family Sports Park in NPL Queensland Round 21 action on Saturday evening.

Andre Bennett’s side head into the penultimate round of the 2024 season in tenth position on the league table on 18 points, five adrift of United who sit sixth.

Roar played out a 1-1 draw on the road against Olympic last weekend with the sides trading blows through second half goals from Lathan Dunn and James Durrington, who netted his fourth goal of the season with his 72nd minute strike.

Saturday’s match marks the end of a busy week for United who drew 2-2 with Lions before suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Rochedale midweek.

United, who are coached by Craig Midgley and Jamie Dixon are home to a number of former Young Roars players including Cai Tipaldo, Zahi Addis and Nicholas Panetta.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw when they met at Nudgee Recreation Reserve in the reverse fixture back in May with Ivan Ozzi and Chris Lucas on target that day.

Ozzi, who has top scored for Roar with eight goals this season is back in contention for selection this weekend after missing last Sunday’s draw with Olympic through suspension.

Roar’s U23 side go up against United in the day’s earlier kick off looking to build on their one point advantage over Moreton City at the top of the table as the Premiership race goes down to the wire.

Saturday’s games at Coplick Family Sports Park kick off at 7pm (NPL Men) & 4:45pm (NPL U23)  with the NPL Men’s match being live stream on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
