Young Roar are up against Sunshine Coast Wanderers in the final match of the 2024 NPL Queensland season at Nudgee Recreation Reserve on Friday night.
Roar head into Round 22 sitting ninth on the NPL ladder with 21 points to their name and could leapfrog the eighth placed Wanderers and finish as high as sixth with a win dependant on results elsewhere on the final day of the 2024 regular season.
Andre Bennett’s side picked up their fifth win of the 2024 season with a 3-0 victory over Gold Coast United thanks to a Rylan Brownlie hat-trick at Coplick Sports Park in their last outing.
Brownlie’s hat-trick takes the 17-year-old to seven NPL goals this season, one shy of the sides top scorer, Ivan Ozzi.
Brownlie is the Roar’s youngest ever Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s goal scorer after finding the back of the net against Melbourne City in December last year aged just 16.
Sunshine Coast Wanderers are coached by former Roar boss, Nick Green and defeated Roar 3-0 when the sides met in the reverse fixture at Ballinger Park in Round 11.
On Saturday Roar’s U23 side can secure the Premiership with a win against the Wanderers at Nudgee Recreation Reserve.
Roar defeated the Wanderers 6-2 when the sides last met and prevailed 4-0 over Gold Coast United last weekend.
A hat-trick from Zac Fowler in last Saturday’s win took the league’s top goal scorer to 25 goals this season.
Friday’s NPL Queensland Round 22 clash at Nudgge Recereation Reserve kicks off at 7:30pm and will be live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
The U23 match kicks off at 2:15pm on Saturday at the same venue.
