Young Roar will test themselves against NPL Queensland league leaders, Lions FC in Round Four action at Luxury Paints Stadium on Sunday evening.
Lions are the only side to have taken maximum points from the opening three rounds of the 2024 season including a 2-0 win over Olympic at Goodwin Park last weekend.
Young Roar come into Sunday’s match off the back of a 1-1 draw on the road against Redlands United last weekend which saw them denied all three points by a 96th minute Max Ellenger header after Jack Benham opened the scoring with a first-time finish on the end of a well worked team move.
Lions, who are coached by Darren Sime are home to former Roar duo Josh Brindell-South and Matt Ridenton as well as a host of ex-Young Roar players.
Ivan Ozzi, who has been sidelined by injury in the early parts of the 2024 campaign made the switch from Lions to Young Roar over the summer, Noah Mcgrath is another to have represented the Richlands outfit at first team level.
The U23 match that kicks off beforehand pits first against third with Young Roar able to move level with Lions at the top of the table with three points on Sunday.
The Roar U23 side have taken two wins from three so far, including a commanding 5-1 win over Redlands last weekend thanks to goals from Eremugo Debele, Zac Fowler, Caleb Butler, Kobi Griffiths and Kade McDougall.
Sunday’s U23 match will also see two of the league’s top scorers go head-to-head in Niall Thom and Zac Fowler, who have both netted four goals from the first three games of the season.
Sunday’s action at Luxury Paints Stadium takes place at 5pm (NPL Queensland) and 2:45pm (U23), the NPL Queensland match will be live streamed on the Football Queensland YouTube channel and FQTV.
