Young Roar defeated league leaders, Lions 2-1 in NPL Queensland Round 4 action at Luxury Paints Stadium on Sunday evening.
The sides traded blows through Rylan Brownlie and James Enticknap before Ty Cobb popped up with a winner in second half stoppage time to seal all three points for Young Roar.
Seven players with A-League minutes this season saw action with Louis Zabala, James Nikolovski, Ryan Lethlean, Taras Gomulka, Shae Cahill, Ayom Majok, Rylan Brownlie and Quinn MacNicol all playing a part in Sunday’s match.
Roar opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Ayom Majok broke free down the right before cutting past his marker and squaring to Brownlie, who made no mistake with his first-time finish for what was his third goal of the 2024 NPL season
James Nikolovski nearly doubled Roar’s lead ten minutes later when his header from an Eddie Ince cross was scrambled off the line by the Lions defence.
Lions levelled the scores in the 54th minute through Enticknap, who burst into the area before sliding a finish into the bottom corner.
Substitute, Cobb netted the match winner in the 92nd minute when he got in behind the home sides defence and calmly finished to seal all three points for Young Roar.
Sunday’s win sees Young Roar move to ninth position on the NPL Queensland ladder with four points to their name after four rounds of action.
In the U23 match Roar moved to within a point of league leaders, Gold Coast Knights with a 5-2 win over Lions.
Next up for Young Roar is a first ever clash against newly promoted Wynnum Wolves at Meakin Park next Sunday afternoon.
