NPL R9 Preview: Young Roar vs Olympic FC

Young Roar are up against Olympic FC in NPL Queensland Round Nine action at Nudgee Recreation Reserve on Sunday evening.

Andre Bennett’s look to make it three wins in a week on Sunday after picking up victories over Rochedale Rovers and Brisbane Strikers in the past seven days.

Roar climbed to seventh on the NPL Queensland ladder with a commanding 5-1 win over Rochedale last Sunday thanks to an Ivan Ozzi hat-trick in his first start for the season along with goals from Riley Gill and Zac Fowler.

Ozzi continued his fine scoring touch when he found the back of the net again in a 4-2 victory over Brisbane Strikers in the Kappa Pro Series at Perry Park on Wednesday night.

Another player to again find the back of the net was Zac Fowler, who made it two goals in two for the academy first team after scoring a league best ten goals for the U23’s so far this season.

James Durrington and Dylan Meinicke were also in target in Wednesday’s win which sees Roar climb to equal second in their Pro Series group.

Wednesday’s 4-2 win sets up a bumper final group game against Sunshine Coast Wanderers where a win would secure the side a spot in the Quarter Finals for the first time.

Olympic, who are coached by former Roar player and Youth Coach, Chris Grossman currently sit ninth on the NPL Queensland table and played out a 0-0 draw with Gold Coast United their most recent outing.

Olympic are home to several ex-Roar players including Daniel Leck, Cyrus Dehmie, Brandon McMorrow and Danny Driver.

Sunday’s match at Nudgee Recreation Reserve kicks off at 5pm and will be livestreamed on the Football Queensland YouTube channel and FQTV.

The U23 match originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed and will be played on Wednesday, May 22.
