Phoenix take win over Roar

Brisbane Roar have gone down to Wellington Phoenix 1-0 at Kayo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Less than 10 minutes into the match it was the Roar who drew first blood after Nikola Mileusnic hit the back of the net, however the offside flag went up.

The home side had two more important chances in the first half including a shot from Carlo Armiento, which appeared to have have been handballed by a Phoenix player

The referee waved away any handball claims.

After the break, Wellington took the lead through Oskar Zawada in the 64th minute.

The Roar would push with a handful of late chances but were unable to get past Oliver Sail.

It was a disheatening loss for head coach Warren Moon.

“We weren’t clinical in their box, and from the chances they had, they had very few, they were clinical and took,” he said.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t get the result tonight and we just got to keep fighting, and looking to build on the early start.

“The last two games haven’t been ideal but we just now have to bounce back against Melbourne City,” Moon added.

Brisbane Roar will turn their attention to their next home match on Saturday 21 January against Melbourne City.
