Brisbane Roar Women captain Clare Polkinghorne has received one of the highest accolades in football, named co-captain of the Westfield Matildas alongside Kate Gill.
The announcement comes following a number of training camps held by new Head Coach Hesterine de Reus at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra and just four weeks after Polkinghorne picked up the Julie Dolan Medal for the Westfield W-League’s Player of the Year for the recently completed season.
“It-s great honour and not something I thought would happen,” Polkinghorne said.
“I-ll take this role with pride and do it justice.”
The Westfield Matildas have a series of international matches coming up, including New Zealand (13 & 16 June), Netherlands (29 June), Dutch club Ado Den Haag (2 July) and France (6 July).
