Young Roar coach Jake Goodship says his side are in positive spirits ahead of Saturday’s NPL Queensland clash against Magpies Crusaders United in Mackay (7pm KO).

After being edged out by Olympic at the Logan Football Complex last weekend, Young Roar make the trip north to face Magpies Crusaders at Sologinkin Oval.

Goodship says his side are looking forward to Saturday’s match after a good week on the training pitch.

“There’s a positive feeling amongst the group, good atmosphere in training, the environment’s really positive,” Goodship said.

“Everyone’s in a good frame mentally, physically, ready to play on Saturday and pushing for spots.”

“We’re excited to travel up and take our boys to the region of Mackay and hopefully the football community comes out in numbers and supports both Mackay and us in what should be a decent game.”

Buoyed by strong showings against Gold Coast Knights and Olympic FC in the past fortnight, Goodship says his side are looking to continue their progression against the Magpies Crusaders on Saturday night.

“We’re looking to build on the last two games, but it means nothing if we can’t back it up against Mackay and take it forward again,” Goodship continued.

“I felt we performed for 60 minutes against Olympic, we’re working on things to improve on our weaknesses from that match and we’re looking forward to the challenge against Mackay.”

Saturday’s trip, which is the Young Roar’s first of the 2019 NPL Queensland campaign to North Queensland, comes at the perfect time according to Goodship.

“I think It’s come at a fantastic time, we’ve played two top teams in the last couple of weeks so to go away and have a bonding opportunity for players as well is a positive,” Goodship said.

“But first and foremost we’ve got to put in a good performance in and we’re expecting a tough game.”
