Our Young Roar return to action this Saturday night when they travel to face Adelaide United Youth in Round 9 of the Foxtel Y-League.

It will be the Young Roar’s first game of 2019, coming off a four-week break since their last game, a 6-0 demolition of Melbourne Victory pre-Christmas.

The Young Roar have held on to first place in Conference A for a good chunk of the current campaign and are firmly in contention for a spot in next month’s Grand Final.

Young Roar midfielder Jay Barnett believes he and his side has a very good chance to be there at the business end of season 2018/19, but knows there are two massive games ahead of them.

“It’s really two grand finals for us in a sense,” Barnett said.

“We obviously want to perform well and win both games, and if we do that, we will be playing in a Grand Final.

“We know that in both games we will face different challenges, but if we keep playing the way we are, the results will take care of themselves.”

The Young Roar faced the Reds back in Round 3 of the Foxtel Y-League season at Eric Evans Reserve, home of the Ipswich Knights Football Club.

That clash was an enthralling affair, with Daniel Leck and Shannon Brady both finding the back of the net in the second half to help secure a 2-2 draw.

Since then the Young Roar have won three in a row to shoot to the top of the table in Conference A while the Reds have managed just the one win in their past four matches.

Originally from South Australia, Barnett has extra motivation this round to produce yet another strong performance.

“There’s extra incentive to play well in front of friends and family, but also against a few old teammates and get one up on them which would be nice,” Barnett added.

“Since I’ve been here [in Brisbane] it’s been the most consistent I’ve been.

“I’m still finding my feet, but I feel throughout the [Foxtel] Y-League campaign, I’ve been playing consistently good football for the team.”
