Cyrus Dehmie fired Brisbane Roar into the club’s first FFA Cup Quarter Final appearance with a dazzling hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Lions FC on Sunday.
The 19-year-old struck all three of his goals in a dominant second half after winning a penalty that Corey Brown converted just eight minutes into the match.
Brown and his team-mates celebrated the opener by holding aloft a jersey emblazoned with Izaack Powell’s name and number, having all worn the same special shirt during their warm-up.
With a tough Round of 16 assignment safely negotiated, Warren Moon’s men will now await details of their next FFA Cup match as the A-League Men’s season approaches.
GOALS
Brisbane Roar – Corey Brown 8′ – 0-1
Dehmie helped send Rahmat Akbari towards the byline and was then first to the midfielder’s cut-back, inviting a trip from Tommy Jarrard. The referee pointed to the spot and from there Brown made no mistake.
Brisbane Roar – Cyrus Dehmie 50′ – 0-2
Josh Brindell-South strode forward, played a one-two with Akbari, and threaded a pass through for Dehmie, who raced into space and finished nicely in off the base of the left post.
Brisbane Roar – Cyrus Dehmie 78′ – 0-3
The pick of the bunch for Dehmie who outpaced two defenders and latched onto Brindell-South’s ball over the top, before producing a deft dink over the advancing Luke Borean.
Brisbane Roar – Cyrus Dehmie 84′ – 0-4
Evading his markers once again, Dehmie reeled in Jay O’Shea’s lovely long pass and had all the time he needed to drill home a left-footed finish.
