Report + Highlights: Roar beaten on the road

Scott Neville and Bruce Kamau

Brisbane Roar’s season-long unbeaten run in New South Wales came to an end in a 2-0 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday evening.

Bernie Ibini’s first-half strike and a late sealer from Bruce Kamau won Western Sydney the points at Bankwest Stadium in a game that could well have ended differently.

The Roar created numerous quality openings and tallied 20 shots but were unable to find a way past man-of-the-match Daniel Margush.

Brisbane remain fifth going into a massive final week of the regular season, with crucial home games against Perth Glory on Wednesday night and Sydney FC on Saturday afternoon to determine the team’s ladder position.

Western Sydney v Brisbane Roar

Western Sydney Wanderers – Bernie Ibini 28′ – 1-0

Ibini turns onto his right foot and drives a fine shot into the bottom left corner from outside the box.

Western Sydney Wanderers – Bruce Kamau 88′ – 2-0

Western Sydney escape a sustained period of Roar pressure to ice the game through Kamau, who produces a neat close-range finish to cap an impressive individual effort on the counter-attack.
