Craig Goodwin’s first-half goal consigned Brisbane Roar to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Sunday.
The Roar fell behind to Goodwin’s 24th-minute strike and were unable to find a way past Reds goalkeeper James Delianov, who denied Joey Champness from the penalty spot later in the first half.
Josh Brindell-South won the spot-kick for Brisbane when his shot struck Ryan Kitto’s arm, but the wing-back had to be substituted on the stroke of half-time after injuring his arm in an aerial collision.
Alex Parsons, making his first A-League start alongside Cyrus Dehmie, attempted three shots throughout his 58 minutes on the pitch while Champness, Corey Brown and Jay O’Shea also threatened.
But having knocked on the door without luck after the interval, Warren Moon’s men will now rest and regroup with a rare full week to prepare for Friday’s trip to Newcastle.
GOALS
Adelaide United ā Goodwin 24′ ā 1-0
Goodwin plays a pass into Kusini Yengi’s feet, darts into the box and seizes on the striker’s heavy touch before finishing low into the bottom far corner.
