New signing Jez Lofthouse found the net as Brisbane Roar’s winning form continued with a 6-0 victory over Capalaba FC in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
In the week he signed his first A-League Men’s contract, winger Lofthouse joined five other players on the scoresheet in a composed 90-minute performance from Warren Moon’s side.
Henry Hore and Jordan Holmes were among the other fresh faces to gain important minutes in the lead-up to the new campaign, which commences away to Melbourne City on 19 November.
Scott Neville struck first at the Gold Coast Sports Precinct when he reacted quickest to Tom Aldred’s knock-down from an early corner.
Rahmat Akbari’s well-judged header and a neat far-post finish from Nikola Mileusnić improved the Roar’s advantage to three goals at the interval.
Lofthouse made it four around 10 minutes after the restart and despite their best efforts, the Bulldogs were breached again 20 minutes from time as Alex Parsons tapped home at point-blank range.
That goal came from a tidy move down the left and it was another well-worked team effort that delivered the sixth, with Matti Steinmann adding the finishing touch.
Young prospects Louis Zabala, Jackson Hart-Phillips and Dom Horwood had the chance to join Cyrus Dehmie on the pitch late on in a partial preview of this weekend’s clash between Brisbane Roar Youth and Capalaba, to be held at John Fredericks Park on Saturday evening.
The senior side, meanwhile, will enjoy a few days of rest, although all eyes will be glued to the FFA Cup Round of 16 draw taking place this Thursday afternoon.
