It-s been a tough few weeks for Brisbane Roar midfielder Rocky Visconte, but things are starting to look up for the youngster.
Just when he thought he had overcome the hamstring injury that plagued most of his off season, Visconte felt a twinge in the other hamstring while playing his first match back against Adelaide United in September-s pre-season friendly.
That sparked another five week stint on the sidelines and after re-joining the squad for full training last week, the 21-year-old says his body is finally feeling capable of playing football to the level he knows he can.
He is, however, being careful not to rush back into match action too quickly, keen to avoid an aftermath similar to his swift return from injury last month.
“I feel my fitness is getting better by the day and building up slowly,” he said.
“Last week was all about integrating back into the squad and today was really my first full session.
“Now, it-s all about working my way up to my peak level of fitness.”
The former Hearts of Midlothian and Ayr United winger is expected to play some part in this weekend-s National Youth League clash against Adelaide United on Saturday afternoon.
The clash provides extra incentive for Visconte, who was born and bred in the City of Churches, and will face up against some familiar faces if given the chance to play.
“I know most of the their youth boys – one of my best mates, Evan Kostopolous, plays for them so if we get to play against each other that-ll be good,” he said.
“Like any team, Adelaide want to come out and win every game, whether it-s the A-League or youth league, so it-ll be good to get a result from both games this weekend.”
Brisbane Roar take on Adelaide United in round four of the Hyundai A-League on Friday, 28 October, kicking off at 7.00pm at Suncorp Stadium.
The National Youth League sides will clash on Saturday, 29 October at 4.00pm at Cleveland Showgrounds, Waterloo Street, Cleveland.
