Roar and City ends in stalemate

Brisbane Roar held Isuzu UTE A-League ladder leaders Melbourne City to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night at Kayo Stadium.

Head coach Warren Moon said he was pleased with the result but believed there was room for improvement.

“I thought we were really good tonight, I thought we were the better team and created plenty of openings and chances,” he said.

“We got to keep working hard for that but we need to start capitalising on moments and opportunities that we create.

“I think that’s what we need to improve on, I’m happy with the performance tonight against the best team in the land.”

After suffering a 2-0 loss earlier in the season, the home side pressed high and hard, allowing City little to no room to move the ball around to their attackers.

“I’m pleased with our structure defensively and how we applied ourselves, limiting what was a good team to only a few chances,” Moon said.

Meanwhile, the compact defence from Roar allowed for the likes of Joe Knowles, Jay O’Shea and Carlo Armiento to break out wide on the counter.

City goalkeeper Thomas Glover played a crucial role for his side, denying the Roar on a handful of occasions.

The Roar will now prepare to travel to MacDonald Jones Stadium to face Newcastle Jets on Friday 27 January.
