Roar come from behind to draw with Canberra

Brisbane Roar’s Liberty A-League side has come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Canberra United at Perry Park.

Roar came out firing, dominating the opening 20 minutes with Shea Connors and Larissa Crummer both having shots on goal.

However, it was Canberra who would open the scoring through New Zealand international Grace Jale after a head clash between Wu Chengshu and Kajsa Lind.

Just nine minutes after halftime, Larissa Crummer drew the scores level following up on a parried shot.

Head Coach Garrath McPherson said, the no.9 has continued her stellar form from last season.

“She is in a rich vien of form. It’s nice to her picking up where she left last season, a goal a game and a massive goal for us today in what were tough conditions,” he said.

As the match drew on, both sides continued to have their chances in front of goal despite the tough conditions they faced. In the end, the team’s had to settle for a point each.

“I’m so proud of the team and the players for seeing it out and to Canberra’s credit, they created chances in the second half on the counter or longer-range passes that could’ve hurt us,” McPherson said.

“We spoke at half-time that our job was to come out in front of the home fans and get ourselves back into the game so the fact that we did that is pleasing.”

The Liberty A-League squad will be on the road next week against Melbourne City on Saturday 3 December at 2pm AEST.
