In a major boost for youth development in Queensland, Brisbane Roar can confirm the club-s entry into the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland competition for 2014 and onwards.

The club-s Foxtel National Youth League (NYL) squad will play in the NPL Senior Men-s competition with a Brisbane Roar Senior Women-s squad competing in the NPL Under 15 boys division.

Following the appointment of Football Director Ken Stead in September 2013, today-s announcement further underlines the club-s long-term commitment to the ongoing development of both male and female footballers in Queensland.

“This is a major step forward for Brisbane Roar,” Stead said.

“Playing in the National Premier Leagues Queensland competition gives our best youth and senior women-s players an opportunity to play football and develop their skills all year around.

“Our focus is not on winning the competition but providing opportunities and producing players.

“As a club, we are leading the way in this state by building a player pathway that will result in talented footballers to play for Brisbane Roar.”

The NYL team will continue to be coached by long-time club stalwart Jeff Hopkins while Brisbane Roar W-League Head Coach Belinda Wilson will look after the Senior Women-s side.

The competition starts in mid-February for the Senior Women in the NPL Under 16 boys competition and in March for the Roar NYL team in the NPL Senior Men-s division.

Please note: Brisbane Roar cannot accept external player applications from any individual. The club only extends invitations after a long and deliberate scouting process.
