Queensland, we’re coming for you!
Queensland, we-re coming for you!
That-s the message from Brisbane Roar-s community football team as they confirm visits to Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Mareeba and Cairns next month.
Ahead of the Roar-s pre-season fixture against Sydney FC in Cairns on Sunday, 22 September, the club-s Roar Active Program (RAP) and Roar Development Program (RDP) coaching teams will travel up the Queensland coast hosting clinics at various football clubs.
“It really is a massive trip – RAP and RDP side by side at every venue hosting twilight clinics in the inflatable field,” Brisbane Roar Community Football Manager Andy Pinches said.
“Scott MacNicol, head of the Roar Development Program, will travel with two coaches, I-ll take four Roar Active Program coaches with me and we-ll drive all the way up to Cairns.”
After trialling regional clinics with a recent visit to Bundaberg and a trip to Mackay during Brisbane-s pre-season campaign last year, Pinches said the response to this year-s trip has been very positive.
“We-ve been in contact with each zone and each football club that is hosting and the reaction has been fantastic,” he said.
“We were also been contacted by Bundaberg and Maryborough who missed out on this particular trip and hosted clinics there in the past month.”
With the Roar now Queensland-s only Hyundai A-League side, Pinches reiterated the importance the club has given to connecting with local football communities state-wide.
“This is not just a one off, we want to expand RAP and RDP in Queensland and to grow a strong, reliable regional presence and this will help us with the planning stages,” he said.
“The key for us is to maintain the level of coaching quality while visiting more and more areas around the state.”
