ROAR DETERMINED FOR SILVERWARE IN AUSTRALIA CUP FINAL

Brisbane Roar face Sydney FC this Saturday night in the Australia Cup Final where they will look to make history by lifting the tournament’s silverware in a club first.

Roar are looking to continue their stellar Cup run in what has been Ross Aloisi’s first time to shine ahead of his first Isuzu UTE A-League season as Head Coach, and he has not failed to impress.

Brisbane have defeated fellow A-League sides Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers and have also downed NPL sides Sydney United 58 FC and Melbourne Knights.

In their last meeting, Sydney FC were victorious with a 2-0 win over Roar at Suncorp Stadium in the ANZAC Day round of the Isuzu UTE A-League so Roar will look to flip these results and get the job done on Saturday night.

This is the third match-up between Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar in Australia Cup; Brisbane Roar won their first match 2-0 in 2019 during Round of 32, and Sydney FC won the last match-up 1-0 in 2021/22 during the quarter-final stage.

Brisbane Roar have scored 3.3 goals per game in 2023 Australia Cup, the second most of any side after Western Sydney Wanderers.

Macklin Freke has made 14 saves throughout the 2023 Australia Cup, the second most behind only Melbourne City’s Jamie Young (19); Freke has kept two clean sheets throughout the competition which is 50{1da264561dd376f9b2add823a677e78092ffba7de7efb9d3ae76566fe866a6d9} of all games he has kept.

Head Coach Ross Aloisi acknowledged the momentous occasion of the Roar making their first Cup Final and highlighted the importance of establishing a winning culture to achieve these results.

“A lot of these people haven’t been involved in a Cup Final before. It’s a proud moment for the club to be, after about 10 years, playing for some silverware,” Aloisi said.

“We believe it’s very important to create a winning culture and mentality and that starts in the training sessions and that’s something that we changed straight away, that professionalism.”
