Brisbane Roar’s Ninja A-League Women kicked off their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against the Queensland State Team as part of the Mitre Festival of Football.
After a hard-fought scoreless first half, Harriet Withers opened the scoring for the hosts in the 45th minute before teammate Anna Hirakawa’s shot from range extended their lead to 2-0 moments later.
In the 55th minute, Bente Jansen crossed the ball to find Sharn Freier in the box for a confident tap-in that saw Roar find their first goal of the night.
New recruit Jansen impressed the crowd with a solo effort to break through Queensland State Team’s defence and cut the ball back before firing it into the back of the net to equalise.
Chloe Lincoln, Ashlyn Miller, Marianna Seidl, Bente Jansen, Ava Piazza, Josie Studer, Kyla Hanson and Kiera Meyers played their first minutes in Roar colours and will look forward to another opportunity this Saturday in Caboolture.
Roar continue their pre-season with another hit-out against Caboolture Sports FC on Saturday evening that will serve as a a great community event connecting with the local football community.
