Roar draw with Adelaide

A second-half goal from Adelaide United has seen the Brisbane Roar settle for a 1-1 draw at AJ Kelly Park on Sunday afternoon.

Indiah-Paige Riley made a stunning return to the Liberty A-League as she hit the back of the net in just four minutes.

Unfortunately, despite the New Zealand international tapping in the cross from Shea Connors, the offside flag went up.

However, Riley wouldn’t have to wait long for the real thing.

The cross from Talitha Kramer wasn’t cleared by the Adelaide defence as Riley has time to twist her body to get the shot off.

Speaking after the match, Riley was excited to be back in Roar colours once again.

“It’s super nice to be wearing the orange jersey in front of the home crowd again and being amongst the girls,” she said

“I should’ve had three…one’s good and happy to be on the scoresheet.

“Obviously we wanted to win and it’s disappointing to get the draw but that’s football sometimes.”

Not long after the break, Adelaide was awarded a penalty for a handball in the box by defender Kajsa Lind.

Chelsie Dawber slotted the penalty in the bottom right corner, out of reach for Hensley Hancuff.

Both sides would go searching for a winner, with the Reds having a goal disallowed for offside while the crossbar denied Roar on a handful of occasions.

Despite chances from both sides, the match would see Roar and Adelaide settle for a point each.

The Roar will travel to Hobart next week to take on Western United on Saturday 21 January.
