Ahead of their clash with the FQPL Wide Bay Select this Saturday afternoon, Brisbane Roar’s Isuzu Ute A-League side have been enjoying a week long training camp in Hervey Bay.
The side has completed a pair of open training sessions in front of the local fans and head coach Warren Moon described the warm welcome the club has received in their third visit.
“Everyone has been first class up here!” Moon said.
Ahead of a busy period where the team will not only have the pre-season friendly, but their Australia Cup Quarter Final in Adelaide on Wednesday night, Moon was optimistic about the benefits of taking the squad away for a few days.
“It’s been a great opportunity to take the squad away for an extended period of time.
To work on things we want to work on in terms of our playing style this season and it’s been a chance for the team to come together and they’ve really bonded this week. It’s been a great opportunity for us to go away as a group.”
Heading to the Fraser Coast region has also provided the squad with the use of some excellent facilities that have been made available to the team.
“We’ve got a great training complex up here where they put us up, it gives us what we need as a group and we’re in the tropics! It’s a good climate and good weather for it, it’s just a great place to visit in Queensland.”
With one eye on the Cup tie, Moon is looking forward to getting a look at his extended squad with several youngsters set to be given an opportunity to make their case while with the first team.
“This has been a great opportunity for some young players to get some minutes and some exposure while being around the first team environment.”
Moon is preparing the side to take on the FQPL Wide Bay Select side this Saturday and discussed his expectations for the match.
“We’ll look to play an attacking brand of football and try to entertain.
Hopefully it’s going to be a good contest against the team up here, we’ve been told it’s quite a strong squad so we’re expecting a tough game. We’re just excited to finish off the week of work up here with a competitive match.”
Watch the Roar take on the FQPL Wide Bay Select side this Saturday at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct, kick off is at 2:30pm and entry is FREE.
