Brisbane Roar FC is proudly backing a special fund-raising day for Epilepsy Queensland to be held at Southside Eagles FC at Bulimba on Saturday, 22 August from 3pm.
Roar players Jack Hingert, Luke Brattan and Jean Carlos Solorzano will be there from 5.15pm to 6.15pm and the Pauls Roar Rapid Fire inflatable fields will open from 4pm for any young footballers wanting to play small-sided games.
All Roar members and fans are encouraged to attend and support the day with all proceeds going to Epilepsy Queensland.
This is the third annual fund-raiser for the not-for-profit charity hosted by Southside Eagles.
Daniel Burley, who is part of the club’s Senior Squad, has a 15-year-old brother Adam, who was diagnosed at the age of 8 with Dravet Syndrome, a rare debilitating form of epilepsy for which there is no cure.
Daniel and Adam’s mum, Rozanne, works at Brisbane Roar as one of the club’s Community Coordinators. She is heavily involved in the Pauls Roar Active Program clinics and the club’s One Goal program.
“Each day with our beautiful Adam is a blessing as his condition is very debilitating and life-threatening,” Rozanne said.
“Epilepsy can affect so many Australians every day and some suffer in silence.
“I like to share Adam’s story for awareness and in hope there will one day be a cure for him and the thousands of children coping every day with this condition.”
More than 80,000 Queenslanders live with epilepsy. Of those, 30 per cent have regular seizures that can’t be controlled by medication. Adam Burley is among them.
A huge program is planned for the Southside Eagles fund-raiser at Memorial Park in Stuart Street, Bulimba.
It includes the club’s first Old Boys day with players from the past 25 years pulling on the boots again in a game from 3pm.
The club’s Reserves and Firsts then take on Bayside United FC in Capital League Division One games at 4pm and 6pm in the last round of the regular season.
Food and beverages will be available throughout the afternoon and a raffle will be conducted with prizes including a signed Roar jersey, goalkeeping gloves signed by Michael Theo and Roar home game tickets will be held.
