After an extended break, the Brisbane Roar Women are looking forward to playing at home against Melbourne Victory on New Year’s Day at A.J. Kelly Park, Kippa-Ring. Kick-off 4pm (QLD Time).

After back-to-back losses away to Canberra United and Sydney FC, Head coach Mel Andreatta believes her side will not dwell on past results and are ready for the Victory this Sunday.

“We love playing at home, we’ve produced some good football and some good moments and we’re looking forward to doing that again against Victory,” Andreatta said.

“[We’re] always looking forward, there is no time to look back in the Westfield W-league. It’s a short season and you must always look to progress your game.”

The Roar have had two disappointing results in the last two matches but after the completion of Round Nine, finals football remains on the agenda.

The side has been working hard over the Christmas break on their structures and their finishing in front of the goal in order to get back to winning ways.

“From time to time things don’t work out the way you’d like but you are constantly working to improve in each session for each game and that’s what we’ve done this week,” Andreatta said.

“The team has stood up and they are training fiercely. The competition on the pitch is second to none and that’s what’s going to make us not only better individuals but it’s going to also help us perform better as a team.”

We’ve got the perfect Gift for you in 2017!

Melbourne Victory are yet to win a game this season and currently sit in eighth position. In a tight and highly-competitive Westfield W-League competition, no team can be underestimated.

“Victory have some smart players, they’re a team that have some threats up front,” Andreatta said.

“That’s what we will be dealing with but they will have to deal with us also.

“We’re looking forward to starting the New Year off in a positive manner.”

Based on the latest weather forecasts, Football Federation Australia (FFA) has taken the proactive step of rescheduling the kick-off for the Round 10 Westfield W-League 2016/17 fixture between Brisbane Roar FC and Melbourne Victory on Sunday 1 January 2017 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm Queensland Time.

Under the FFA’s Heat Policy, the consistent forecast of the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) has predicted that the threshold of 28 degrees will be exceeded on Sunday at 3:00pm (AEST) and is expected to fall to a safe and acceptable level for the match to kick off at the rescheduled time of 4:00pm (AEST).
