Roar reap benefits from elite new training pitch

Brisbane Roar men training

Brisbane Roar’s A-League Men received another timely boost as they trained for the first time on the Gold Coast Sports Precinct’s new elite rectangular pitch at the club’s southern training base on Monday morning.

In the week of their Round 1 meeting with Melbourne City and amid the countdown to the much-anticipated first home match against Adelaide United on Saturday, 4 December, Warren Moon’s men took advantage of the fresh football surface with a strong session in the Queensland sunshine.

The custom-made pitch, developed specifically for elite teams, further strengthens the club’s infrastructure mix, which includes the A-League Women’s world-class training site at QSAC and the forthcoming, state-of-the-art Women’s Centre of Excellence and Youth Academy at South Pine Sports Complex.

Local Councillor Bob La Castra addressed the squad prior to their first run on the new field and spoke of the “real buzz” he felt as a long-time football fan.

Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre presented Councillor La Castra with one of the team’s New Balance home shirts as a thank you for his support and that of the City of Gold Coast.

“We sincerely thank Cr La Castra, the City of Gold Coast and Brett Robinson and his team for making this possible,” he said.

“Our partners and stakeholders here have been extremely supportive of football and the Roar, for which we are very appreciative.

“The development of this brand new, bespoke pitch is another great sign of that and a fantastic addition to the elite infrastructure that is now at the disposal of our men’s, women’s and BRFC Academy teams.”

Head Coach Warren Moon warmly welcomed the exciting development.

“It is very pleasing to have a nice new football-specific pitch to support such a strong sporting precinct,” Moon said.

“The surface is as good as any I have experienced throughout my time coaching in Queensland, which is a credit to the venue staff here and really positive news for the season ahead.”

Tickets are now on sale for the Roar’s first three home matches of the new Isuzu UTE A-League campaign, beginning with the Adelaide clash on the first Saturday in December.
