Brisbane Roar Head Coach Robbie Fowler has made the first addition to his squad for Hyundai A-League Season 2019/20 with talisman Roy O’Donovan signing on in Brisbane orange.
O’Donovan, who arrived in the Hyundai A-League in 2015, has scored 39 goals from 80 appearances across four seasons, establishing himself as one of the league’s top marksmen.
The former Irish U21 international and Premier League striker will be an important addition for the Roar in Season 2019/20 and beyond, having signed on for the next two Hyundai A-League campaigns.
“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to sign for Brisbane Roar. It’s an exciting time to be joining the club and the chance to work with Premier League legend Robbie Fowler was a big factor in my decision,” O’Donovan said.
“Brisbane is a big [Hyundai] A-League club and I’m looking forward to challenging the top teams next season and help to bring back the success that Brisbane have had in the past.
“I want to thank the Newcastle Jets and all of the fans there for their fantastic support and wish them all the best for next season,” O’Donovan said.
New Brisbane Roar Head Coach Robbie Fowler had the following to say about O’Donovan’s signing,
“I’m very happy that we have secured Roy for the next two seasons. Getting a quality striker with a proven track record in the [Hyundai] A-League was a key position for us to fill,” Fowler commented.
“I was impressed with what I’ve seen of Roy so far and genuinely feel that there is plenty more to come from him and look forward to his contribution as a goal scorer and an experienced member of the squad.”
O’Donovan will link up with his new teammates when Brisbane Roar pre-season training officially gets underway next week.
