Roar share the points after a last minute Phoenix equaliser

Brisbane Roar have been forced to share the points after a 2-2 draw with Wellington Phoenix at KAYO Stadium.

The contest started tightly with neither side giving each other an inch before the Phoenix broke the deadlock just 15 minutes into the match via an incredible long range effort from Manaia Elliot.

One minute later Ashyln Miller found herself on the end of a sweeping Roar move to cooly convert from the 10 yards out. 15 minutes later the Roar extended their lead via an exquisite shot from distance from Ava Piazza which sent the home crowd into raptures.

The remainder of the first half yielded half chances for both sides however neither side was able to find the back of the net.

The second half began extremely tightly with both sides continuing to fight for the ball at every opportunity and it was the Phoenix who created the first clear cut chance of the half in the 64th minute when Sabitra Bhandari found space in the box and let rip a low strike which was save expertly from Chloe Lincoln.

Alex Smith’s team dug deep from here and looked certain to take all three points until a last ditch Brooke Nunn cross wasn’t dealt with by the Roar and ultimately fell into the back of the net, forcing both sides to share the points
