Brisbane Roar drew 2-2 with Wellington Phoenix in Auckland on Sunday afternoon after a late equaliser by the Roar secured themselves a point.
In the 8th minute, Jez Lofthouse went down in the box and Jay O’Shea fired the penalty down the middle.
O’Shea’s goal equals the club record of scoring in six consecutive games set by club legend Besart Berisha.
Oska Zawada found Wellington’s first goal in the 35th minute after converting a penalty to the bottom right after Jez Lofthouse made a foul in the box.
In the 56th minute, Yan Sasse made a one-two with Oskar Zawada that he received back in front of goal to bury it with his left foot.
Brisbane found the late equaliser in the 82nd minute off a corner by Jay O’Shea that met Scott Neville for a header to level the score line 2-2.
Interim Head Coach Nick Green was pleased to leave Auckland with a point to back up Brisbane’s win at home against Newcastle Jets the week before.
“It’s always pleasing to back up a result and come away with a point, it’s disappointing that we didn’t get three, if you can’t win a game, you make sure you don’t get beat,” Green said.
Green’s focus now shifts to the Roar’s Round 25 match-up against Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium on Monday 24 April, which will determine if Brisbane secure themselves a spot in the top six.
“It could be an important point for ourselves, we have to gather ourselves and work towards next week in our last home game and see if we can take all three points and make it interesting with a game to go.”
