Roar snap up three points in Melbourne

A Jay O’Shea goal gave Brisbane Roar a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Friday night.

The win has momentarily put the Roar into fifth position, with more matches to come in Round 11, as they extend their undefeated streak to eight games.

Looking to turn their draws into wins, head coach Warren Moon said it was a stellar performance by the squad.

“I was pleased with what we did tonight, I was proud of the boy’s effort from start to finish,” he said.

“We grew into the game nicely, had chances in the first half and we felt it was there for the taking in the second half.”

The Roar created several chances in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net.

As they continued searching for a way to break the deadlock, Victory began to find their rhythm early in the second half but were unable to get it past goalkeeper Jordan Holmes.

It wasn’t until the 73rd minute that the goal came with Irishman Jay O’Shea’s shot taking a deflection for his side to take the all-important lead.

The goal was enough to give Roar their third win of the season while keeping their fourth clean sheet.

“We were just in it together,” O’Shea said of his side’s win.

“Defensively we were excellent because they’ve got so many good players going forward and we dealt with it well.

“Even when we didn’t have the ball, we had control of the game…it was a massive three points for us.”

Brisbane Roar will now travel to Western Australia to face Perth Glory on Tuesday 10 January with kick off 9:30pm AEST.
