Roar stars support FareShare FootSteps Challenge

At Brisbane Roar, our commitment to caring for others extends beyond the walls of our club and into the Queensland communities our players, colleagues and supporters call home.

In an effort to invest in the vitality and well-being of our communities, we’re proud to again be engaging with several charities throughout the 2021/22 season.

Kicking off a big run of campaigns is the FootSteps Challenge from FareShare, a great Australian charity that turns food waste from supermarkets into free, nutritious meals for some of Queensland’s most vulnerable people. FareShare’s kitchens are based in Queensland and Victoria.

Throughout the pandemic, FareShare has been at maximum capacity across Australia to provide demand for meals for the less fortunate members of our communities.

FareShare’s chefs and volunteers have been working around the clock to ensure delicious meals are put on the table – it’s been estimated that FareShare chefs can walk up to 150km a fortnight doing this demanding job.

To support and acknowledge this massive undertaking, Brisbane Roar is proud to be supporting the FootSteps Challenge this October.

Roar players Jesse Daley, Josh Brindell-South, and Mariel Hecher along with Head Coaches Warren Moon and Garrath McPherson will all be taking part in an intra-club challenge to see who can walk the most kilometres for FareShare. To support FareShare our Brisbane Roar stars will be aiming to fundraise a target of $10,000.

“As a club Brisbane Roar is passionate about helping our community,” A-League Head Coach Warren Moon said.

“I’m excited to be taking part in the FareShare FootSteps Challenge raising awareness for a great cause! If I’m getting some more exercise in while helping, I’m ALL for it.

“I encourage our entire Brisbane Roar family to get behind the players as we do our daily footsteps for FareShare.”

The players and Head Coaches will aim to walk 50kms within a fortnight, from Sunday, 3 October through to Monday, 18 October.
