Brisbane Roar secured a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Sunday afternoon at The Home of the Matildas to start the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season on the right foot.
After a scoreless first half, 16-year-old Grace Kuilamu opened the scoring on her Liberty A-League debut in the 49th minute. A stellar cross by Sharn Freier found Kuilamu outside the box where she struck the bottom left corner to hand Roar the lead.
She becomes the youngest ever goal-scorer for the Roar and the third-youngest player.
In the 70th minute, Jenna McCormick made it 2-0 after a Hollie Palmer free kick found her for a flying header into the back of the net.
Melbourne Victory were not going to allow a clean sheet, with Ella O’Grady tucking one away at the bottom right corner to make the final score 2-1.
Brisbane Roar will be ecstatic with that score line for Round 1 of the Liberty A-League season and will look to continue this goal-scoring form in the rounds to come.
They face Sydney FC next at home on Saturday 21 October. 3pm KO AEST.
