Roar suffer tough defeat in Newcastle

Brisbane Roar suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday evening.

Dean Bouzanis made a foul on Clayton Taylor in the box to give away a penalty in the 17th minute. Lachlan Rose stepped up for the kick and successfully found the back of the net to give the hosts an early lead.

Eli Adams put through a great ball for Clayton Taylor to pounce onto and bury into goal to extend Jets’ lead in the 52nd minute.

Roar got themselves back in the game briefly, with a spectacular header from Dimi Valkanis to mark his first ever A-League goal.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to upset the in-form Newcastle side as Lachlan Bayliss put one away just moments later.

After receiving a yellow card earlier in the match, Chris Long fouled Taylor in the 89th minute to receive another and therefore, sent off from the field. He will miss next week’s Round 16 action at Kayo Stadium against the Mariners.

Bayliss was able to find the back of the net for the second time to seal the three points with a 4-1 victory.
