Roar teens net first senior goals

Two Roar teenagers scored their first goals senior PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland competition in a 4-2 loss to Western Pride at Briggs Road on Saturday night.

Dane Ingham and Daniel Leck, who were promoted from the NPLQ Under-18s in recent weeks, scored either side of the break as the Young Roar scrambled to get a result after going 2-0 behind after just 15 minutes.

But the inexperience in the side showed with them conceding a goal in the final before half-time and a fourth in added time at the end of the match.

Ingham netted his goal when he capitalised on an error of judgement by Pride goalkeeper Bon Scott and slotted his shot into an open goal.

Leck scored his maiden NPLQ senior goal when he finished off a classy set of passes by the Young Roar in an impressive patch of football which finally reflected the true potential to the young side.

Young Roar coach John Sime said his side were repeatedly caught on the transition by Pride.

“I was disappointed with some individual performances from experienced players more than the younger players but younger players make mistakes and you just have to cop it on the chin and progress from there onwards,” he said.

“We had a good spell early in the second half but we just didn’t carry it on for long enough.

“Well get back on the training paddock and work it out for our next game.”
