Speaking to media on Monday morning, Roar midfielder Aiden O’Neill says his side are looking forward to getting out and meeting the local Gladstone community.
“We’ve got a few clinics at schools and similar visits which is really good to get out in the community,” O’Neill said.
“We’re the only [Hyundai] A-League team in Queensland so it’s a good opportunity to go out and represent ourselves as well in the right way.
“It’s huge for the local community.”
With the Roar’s first competitive fixture, an FFA Cup Round of 32 away clash against Sydney FC on August 7 quickly approaching, the week ahead shapes up as an important one in the side’s preparation for the upcoming season.
Midfielder Jay O’Shea says the week long camp in Gladstone will be an invaluable experience for the travelling squad.
“There are a lot of new lads and the boys who were here before have made us feel really welcome and this will only make it better now – a week away together where there aren’t any distractions.”
“It’s very important to gel together and get to know each other, the way we play and stuff like that, getting to know what way the manager wants to play,” O’Shea said.
