Roar well placed for big season ahead: Aldred

Captain Tom Aldred says foundations built last season at the Roar have his side primed for a tilt at silverware in the 2020/21 campaign.

The Roar returned to pre-season training this week at Carrara, just shy of two months after finishing its last campaign – one that returned the Roar to finals football for the first time since the 2017/18 season.

The Roar opened pre-season preparations on Monday on the Gold Coast.

“We’re excited to be back training after the off season,” Aldred said on the Gold Coast.

“It [the Gold Coast] a lovely spot of the world, of Queensland, and we’re excited to be here and build success here.

“We’ve now got a start date for the season, which is the 27th of December, so it’s really important that we had a base to work, train and improve as side. Here at the Gold Coast, we have the basis of that – the place looks amazing.”

The Roar squad features a number of familiar faces from last campaign, as well as host of new faces. Queenslanders Jesse Daley & Joshua Brindell-South bolster Head Coach Warren Moon’s midfield and defensive lines with the duo’s signings announced last week.

“Last season we felt was a successful campaign, but we’ve kept a core group of our squad and make some strong additions to it,” Aldred said.

“For me, we just need to keep improving and that starts on a daily basis. Day-by-day, we want to improve and as players, a team and a Club, we want to get back to the finals and go one or two better than last year and look to win it.

“There’s definitely a squad here who’s capable of doing it. We have the foundations to be successful.”
