Roar Women around the globe

Hayley Raso & Yuki Nagasato both found the back of the net in a big weekend of NWSL action as our Roar Women continued to shine around the globe.

Raso fired home a double as Portland remained at the top of the NWSL standings with a 5-0 win over Houston Dash at Providence Park on Thursday.

Raso’s quick-fire first half double takes her tally to three in as many outings in recent weeks while her Roar teammate Celeste Boureille was an unused sub for the Thorns.

Roar Women skipper Clare Polkinghorne was absent from Houston’s matchday squad for Thursday’s game.

Nagasato scored her fourth goal of the 2019 NWSL season as her Chicago Red Stars triumphed 4-0 over Reign FC on Monday.

Monday’s win elevates the Red Stars to third on the league table and keeps them within touching distance of league leaders Portland.

This weekend the Red Stars play host to the Utah Royals while Portland take on Sky Blue FC.

Back at home Natalie Tathem played 90 minutes while Allira Toby came on as a second half substitute as Moreton Bay played out a 2-2 draw with The Gap at Wolter Park on Sunday.

Moreton Bay have the bye next up before welcoming Abbey Lloyd’s Capalaba to Wolter Park on August 9.

Charlotte Farmer, Georgia Beaumont & Jamilla Rankin were name in Rae Dower’s Westfield Junior Matildas squad on Tuesday to take part in the 2019 Pacific Set Up Tour.

The girls will visit Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands and play a match against the under 19 women’s national team in each country in early August.

Meanwhile Football South West Queensland and Football Stanthorpe have announced that Brisbane Roar FC Westfield W-League Head Coach Mel Andreatta will visit Stanthorpe in September for a female-centred coaching workshop.

The Westfield Matildas Assistant Coach will be in the region on Sunday, 1 September to conduct the workshop at C F White Oval, in conjunction with Football South West Queensland’s Regional Development Officer David Nugent.
