Roar Women out to end 2018 with a bang

Our Roar Women will be looking to finish off their fantastic 2018 with a bang when they travel to face Canberra United on Thursday night.

After back-to-back home wins, the Roar Women now sit alongside Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory at the top of the Westfield W-League ladder, and would temporarily take top spot with a result in Canberra.

Head Coach Mel Andreatta knows her side will not be underestimating their opponents this round, who will be hungry to bounce back.

“They [Canberra United] are a quality side. I don’t think there’s a side in this league, this season, that you can underestimate,” Andreatta said.

“They’ll be fired up, they always respond well after a disappointing game.

“We’re going in knowing that at McKeller Park it’s going to be a real fight.”

After a lean first few weeks in front of goal, the Roar Women have managed to slam home seven goals in the last two games.

Now the Roar Women are eager to continue their hot form in front of goal away from home this week, where a win would make it three wins out of four games on the road this season.

“We want to right a wrong, which was our last away game where we didn’t perform at our best,” Andreatta added.

“We want to travel away from home, redeem ourselves and show that we can play anyone, anytime and anywhere.

“The girls have come into this week extraordinarily well and preparations have been excellent.”

The last game of 2018 marks the beginning of the business end of the Westfield W-League season where the in-form squads knuckle down before the finals.

Sitting equal first currently, the Roar Women are right in that boat where things are clicking for the squad who are excited to begin catapulting themselves towards finals football.

“This time of year is really important to get yourself in a good position for that January period where you’re pushing for finals,” Andreatta stated.

“It’s our job to keep this momentum going and we’ve achieved that by trusting in our processes — I don’t expect anything to change.”

Our Roar Women took the chocolates on both occasions against Canberra last season, the most recent being a 4-1 win at Suncorp Stadium which secured a record-equalling third Westfield W-League Premiership.
