The Brisbane Roar women will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointing defeat against Canberra United when they take on Sydney FC away on Friday, 23 December (6:30pm KO) at Lambert Park.
The result last weekend at Central Coast Stadium was disappointing for Head Coach Mel Andreatta’s side, but the group is looking forward to the challenge of taking on Sydney FC this Friday night.
“Of course it was a disappointing result and certainly not a result we thought we did the work for,” Andreatta said.
“It’s not how we prepared either but certainly the positive is that in football you always get opportunities to redeem yourself and set things right quickly.
“For us, Friday’s game against Sydney gives us that chance to move on which is great.”
The last time the two sides met was in the opening round of the Westfield W-League season at Spencer Park, Newmarket where the Roar secured a 2-1 win with Allira Toby (below) getting the winner for the Roar in an action-packed fixture.
Since then, Sydney FC has strung together four consecutive victories, while the Roar have faced some of the competition’s toughest teams, coming away with some solid results to date.
Despite their performance and result against Canberra United there were still signs of the “Roar way” in last Sunday’s away game.
“There were still glimpses of that in our game against Canberra, and that’s what we are focused on,” Andreatta said.
“The response from the group was second to none throughout training this week.
“The work that they have put in I believe will hopefully show on the park this Friday.”
The Roar currently sit in fifth spot, with fives games remaining ahead of the 2016-17 Finals series.
“The team has a long history of being a part of the competition around finals time and the girls haven’t lost sight of that but they know that there’s a lot of hard work to be done,” Andreatta said.
“We know and believe it is within us to perform well and challenge for this season’s title.”
After Friday’s away match the Brisbane Roar women will have back-to-back home games against Melbourne Victory at A.J. Kelly Park, Kippa Ring on New Year’s Day before taking on Western Sydney Wanderers in a Westfield W-League/Hyundai A-League double header on Saturday, 7 January.
